The Little Things...
I'm
sure there's humor in trying to shave your legs in the shower with a
three-year old asking "why" and "what's that for" as he points to my
tattoo, poking his head around the shower curtain. And I'm sure there's
humor in throwing toys and stuffed puppies and monkey blankies and
sippy cups into a bag only to realize that it's your PURSE and that your
wallet and car keys and cell phone are actually in the bag you're
packing for the babysitter. I'm sure that one day, I'll even be able to
find that humor and laugh at it myself, but tonight, I'm
just.......well, actually, I'm okay with it.
Because
that's the life of a single mom who is trying her damndest to be the
mom her son deserves and still cling to some of the parts that make her
who she outside of that role. And because in between those crazy moments
are the ones that are perfect. The ones that have you on the back of a
motorcycle, smelling the salt from the bay and the charcoal from the
cookout nearby, and seeing the sunset with your arms around a guy who
manages to make those moments of insanity completely fade away and
somehow steady you for the next round of life's little curve-balls.
If I've learned ANYTHING from the struggle of the day-to-day, it's that the things that make you rich aren't the material ones, or the big paychecks (nice as those would be), they're the smell of the charcoal and the wind in your face, the steady hug of an amazing guy, and when you get home, the big, wet, chocolatey kiss you get from the little boy who made you crazy in the first place.
